About Us
Mission Statement
Giving Vision, a branch of Advanced Vision Research, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization committed to providing comprehensive vision care to the community at large. Our outreach care program is primarily dedicated to identifying and caring for children with vision impairments. Identifying and assisting elderly adults, particularly with macular degeneration, is another goal of the program.
To provide vision care and vision screenings to those in under-serviced communities who cannot afford to pay for such services.
To foster vision care research with the goal of restoring/improving vision for those with visual impairments and to provide ongoing care..
Research
New treatments are sought for impairing diseases of the cornea such as keratoconus (abnormal eye shapes that cause distortions in vision), scars, and optical distortions. Results of this research will be presented at peer ophthalmology conferences with the goal of being disseminated through the peer literature to other doctors and on the Internet to patients.
Donations
It only costs $200 for an eye exam and glasses for a child. Our immediate goal is to raise funds to provide an eye exam and glasses to every child in need in the Los Angeles area. These clinics will provide services which will be free of charge. The network will involve eye doctors who are part of our network to provide these services. Glasses and other necessary treatments will be paid for by Advanced Vision Research. We strive to serve all of those who come for our services and to treat them on site.
Thank you for being open to the idea of participating in this worthy cause.

VisionQuest - Children’s Program
“Not all children can see the colors of the rainbow…”
Thousands of children in our very own communities have never had a simple vision test; they have never been screened for glasses or for blinding eye disease. There is a great need to provide such services to those in need in our own ‘back yard’. Reading skills and general scholastic development is adversely affected simply because a child does not even know he or she needs glasses. Often, these children do not realize that they do not see well nor do they mention the problem to their parents. Parents and teachers may label these children with learning disabilities and other children may call them ‘stupid’. All along, these children just needed a pair of glasses - a simple solution.
It only costs $200 for an eye exam and glasses for a child.
There is a need for even more comprehensive screening of children to diagnose and treat various eye conditions. For example, undiagnosed “lazy eye” (amblyopia) is a common cause of vision loss for children and must be treated before the age of 8 years old to avoid permanent vision loss.
Early childhood intervention can not only prevent permanent vision damage but it can prevent social withdrawal of children from their peers. With vision loss, whether from serious conditions or simply from lack of glasses, children may not develop interpersonal skills, lessons of teamwork and social interactions by not participating in sports and other extracurricular activities. Such deficiencies can prevent these children from going on to higher education and obtaining good employment.
The cost of early intervention in the present day can save these children much hardship and potentially reduce the expense of social programs in the future.
Insights - Seniors Program
Not all seniors can see their grandchildren smile…”
The seniors in our community are faced with decreasing medical services due to increasing budget cuts. Age related macular degeneration (central vision loss) is a very common cause of permanent vision loss. Although this is largely untreatable, we must screen for this and offer nutrition therapy to prevent the disease from worsening.
